ONGOING EU FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECTS
Erasmus +KA2: Capacity Building in the Field of Higher Education (Total Budget (Euro 970,000) 2017-2020. The Aim is to support andmodernize medical education by establishing an innovative training center with realistic simulation models in order to improve the training ofpractical skills and soft skills in medical education for universities in Jordan, Iran and Iraq.

Previous EU Funded Research Projects
FP7 HEALTH 2007 BETTER USE OF MEDICINES(Total Budget 1.2 Million Euros, 2010-2014)Assessing Over-The-Counter Medications In Primary Care And Translating The Theory Of Planned Behaviour Into Interventions. The project aims to identify influential factors in prescribing over-the-counter medication as well as in the inappropriate use of medicines in primary care settings in various Southern European countries, and to implement pilotinterventions in order to test the effectiveness of the proposed modifications.
FP7 ICT for Patient Safety TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH AND PATIENT SAFETY IN EUROPE (Total Budget 9 Million Euros, 2010- 2015). The Electronic Primary Care Research Network for Europeaims to build on work funded by the US National Institutes of Health, to create a set of tools for the linkage of health record and research data, identification of suitable subjects for research, management of data elements and forms and semanticinteroperability. The project will improve the safety of subjects entering clinical trials and also specifically improve patient safety by providing generic diagnostic decision support for primary care.
MEDTRA Project (Total Budget 100,000 Euros; 2007-2010)
Dr. Stabile serves as the Malta coordinator of the MEDTRA project, a TEMPUS MEDA action, funded by European Commission which enables universities from EU Member States to cooperate with the Mediterranean partner countries in higher education modernisation projects. The MEDTRA Project’s primary objective is to design and implementing a Masters Course in Occupational Medicine for medical doctors in Syria.
In addition to the above, Dr. Stabile’s research activities focus on the following main areas:
Medical Education: Since 2005, Dr. Stabile has embarked on a long term research programmethe aim of which is to improve the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to medical education and by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results. A number of different studies have been conducted and published (see bibliography) and several others are on-going.
Malta Health Sciences Research Database: Dr. Stabile has compiled a central repository for research carried out in Malta in any of the Health Sciences including communication, dentistry, management, medicine (and its subspecialties), midwifery, nursing, nutrition, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physiotherapy, podiatry, psychology, public health, radiography and social policy. This database contains abstracts from theses, dissertations, case reports, and original research conducted in the Maltese Islands. These can be searched via key words, or through the author or title.Students preparing a research proposal will find the data contained useful, as will anyone who is seeking to conduct original research and seeks to review the Maltese literature.
Morphbank: An Open Web Depository for Biologic Material: Dr. Stabile has been appointed Lead Scientist responsible for expanding MorphBank into the field of human sciences. Her role is to coordinate the collectionof human anatomy images in all formats into an open web depository to form the basis for international collaborative studies. A number of research and teaching initiatives based on these data are ongoing. For link to the web sitesee: http://morphbank.scs.fsu.edu/About/Introduction/#
