Abortion and Fertility

Abortion does not affect fertility

The idea that abortion is likely to impact a woman’s fertility in the future is a common misconception. There is no medical procedure which is completely 'risk-free', but complications after safe medical and surgical abortion are extremely rare.

There is absolutely no evidence that a safe abortion procedure has future effects on fertility.

In a safe medical environment the risk of a womb infection is prevented (antibiotics are usually given before the abortion to reduce the risk) or treated at an early stage with antibiotics, avoiding any affect on fertility.

Legal induced abortion is a safe procedure, in fact markedly safer than carrying a pregnancy to term and giving birth.
